1861-05-21 Ice from Lake Ladoga
London Times, 21 May 1861, p. 9: RUSSIA. St. Petersburg, May 20, Evening.
Although the Neva has been already open for navigation, it was to-day suddenly and thickly covered with ice coming from Lake Ladoga.
Many vessels have been damaged, and many barges, laden with grain, sunk.
The losses are very considerable.
