London Times, 14 September 1909, p. 8: THE RUSSIAN FLEET. The Russian cruiser RURIK, after completing her escort duties with the Imperial yacht STANDART, has proceeded to the Finland Gulf to practice the crew in gunnery and manoeuvring. At the expiration of the 12 months’ guarantee by the contractors, Messrs. Vicekers, Sons, and Maxim, the guarantee engineer, Mr. Raby, was presented with a souvenir by the captain and officers of the ship, who expressed satisfaction with the perfect working of the propelling engines and ordnance machinery, and with the manner in which the whole contract has been completed. The RURIK is now designated flagship of the Baltic Fleet under Admiral von Essen.
