1909-01-21 NAVAL ADMINISTRATION IN RUSSIA

London Times, 21 January 1909, p. 6: NAVAL ADMINISTRATION IN RUSSIA. ST. PETERSBURG, JAN. 20.* Great public interest is being displayed in a naval Court-martial, which was opened to-day on Major-General Alexeieff (retired), of the Naval Artillery, who, writing under a pseudonym in the Novoe Vremya, has scathingly criticized the naval administration. General Alexeieff is charged with having accepted bribes amounting to 20,000 roubles (£2,000) from an agent of a British gun company in connexion with orders for guns and ammunition during the Russo-Japanese War, when he held a staff appointment in St. Petersburg. General Alexeieff pleaded not guilty.
