1856-11-26 RUSSIA

London Times, 26 November 1856, p. 7: RUSSIA

A letter dated St. Petersburg, November 16, says --

"The fact of a shot having been fired from the fort at Yenikalé upon an English vessel of war has caused some sensation in our official world; the heads of our commercial houses, who have branch establishments in the towns of the Sea of Azoff, after the experience of the sad events which occurred there in 1855, show some anxiety respecting the many commercial interests engaged there since the peace. No one here doubts that the Russian Commander was perfectly justified in preventing the English vessel from entering the Sea of Azoff to prevent to capture of ships engaged in smuggling."
