London Times, 9 September 1909, p. 14: THE MARINE INSURANCE MARKET. (FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.) LONDON, SEPT. 8. (Excerpt) Underwriters are resigned to the prospect of paying a substantial claim in the case of the new Russian submarine No. 10. An explosion occurred last month in this submarine while the vessel was in the Neva Dockyard, and was reported to have resulted in the death of one man and in a number of others being burned. The electrical appliances were extensively damaged, and the mechanical parts and the hull were also injured. The submarine is valued at 750,000 roubles (£75,00).
